Petersen (Canterbury). NORTH V. SOUTH SOUTH WINS BY 9 TO 8. The first inter-island Rugby match was played at Eden Park, Auckland, on Saturday, with an attendance of about 5000 spectators. The unanimous verdict of the spectators was "the greatest battle of forwards ever witnessed on an Auckland ground.'' North Island scored 8 points in the first half, but South put on three tries in the second spell, and thus won a great victory. RUGBY LEAGUE MEETING LAST NIGHT.

A meeting of the Cambridge Rugby League was held at the Central Stables last night. Present: Messrs W. Wilkinson (chairman), S. Kean and A. Shostrom (Athletics), F. o'Toole, and C. F. Lange (Suburbs), J .C. Murdin and Albert Harris (Matangi), G. Foster (City Rovers), E. Hart (treasurer), and E. J. Buttimore (secretary). Re the matter of lighting Victoria Square, it was decided to write the Fire Brigade, Athletic Club and Cambridge Rugby Union to appoint delegates as soon as possible, to confer re the number of lights required, and also what amount could be raised towards the cost of the scheme. Messrs W. Wilkinson, E. J. Buttimore and Lange were appointed to represent the Rugby League. Messrs Wilkinson, Buttimore, Kean and Foster were appointed a committee to go into the cost of erecting dressingrooms.

The League's delegates were instructed to endeavour to have the South Auckland rep. match played at Cambridge; also a match with the Australian League touring team. Tho transfer of L. D. Stewart from Newton Rangers to Cambridge was confirmed, while the transfer of J. Jackson (Taupiri) to Athletics was held over for the time being, he being allowed to play in the meantime.

It was decided to write Hamilton League, suggesting 15th July as date' for match between Cambridge and Hamilton reps., on Victoria Square, match to start at 3 p.m., with a curtain raiser, Suburbs-Athletics v. MatangiCity Rovers. The meeting resolved that twenty players be put into training at once, with a view to participating in the forthcoming rep. fixtures, these to meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The president and secretary were deputed to arrange with the Stock Department, re fencing off a portion of League Park, for matches.

The secretary was instructed to write the Borough Council, asking permission to make a charge for admission to all ordinary matches —6d for adults, and 3d for children; also for permission to charge 1/ and 6d for the match versus Hamilton on July 15th.

With a view to putting a stop to the custom of "dodging the gatekeeper/ ' it was decided that any persons detected slipping into the grounds without payment —on days when charges are made—be put out through the main gates, and that their names be published in the local paper.
