FIRE BRIGADE

FORTHCOMING DANCE \ PUBLIC TO CO-OPERATE At the invitation of Air Goo. Clark, a number of representatives of the public met members of the Cambridge Volunteer Fire Brigade on Tuesday evening, to discuss the proposal to have a "long night” dance to close the series that has been held during the winter months in aid of the Brigade’s funds. Among those present were His Worship the Mayor (Mr S. Lewis), Alessrs C. Miller, Alf. Gane, Geo. Clark, D. Congalton, AY. Hall, and McVeagh, together with nine members of the Fire Brigade. The Alayor stated that, unfortunately, there seemed a distinct line of demarcation between the public and the Fire Brigade. This should not be. The Brigade was filling a most useful purpose and deserved every encouragement the public could offer. It had been suggested that the public co-oper-ate .with the Brigade, in order to make the final dance of their winter series a great financial and social success. Mr Clark had already arranged for a committee of ladies to help with the supper arrangements, and it was hoped to take such steps at that night’s meeting as would tend to make the function a great success. Air Lewis said he welcomed this meeting, as a meansf' of bringing the Brigade and the pubfiy into closer touch.

After some little discussion, it resolved to fix the date of the dance for Tuesday, .Sept. 27, and it was also agreed that prices for admission be: Men 5/; ladies 3/. Mr Clark stated that lie had secured the nucleus of a ladies' committee, comprising Mesdamcs W. J. White, G. McCullough and 4-lf. Gane, who would with other ladies be responsible for the supper arrangements, and provide the bulk of the refreshments.

It was decided to have tickets priitted, and circulated at once, the opinion being expressed that the public would readily purchase tickets, even if they did not attend the dance. Mr Reeve's offer to arrange for a card tournament, to be held on the stage, for non-dancers, was accepted as a good suggestion. All those present were constituted a comniittcc, with Mr W. K. Reeve as secretary, to carry out the arrangements for the function, while Messrs Congalton, Clark, Vause and Reeve were appointed to act as a publicity committee.

Judging by the enthusiastic way in which the matter is being taken up, the function should be a great success, and as a result the Brigade's funds should be considerably augmented.
