Miss Newman, who resides in Queen Street, was' making her way across, the floating logs below the Karapiro Bridge with & friend, when one of them sank unexpectedly* precipitating her suddenly into the waters of the Waikato. The young lady was quickly helped on to the booms by her companion who was much upset at the occurrence, and enabled to reach her home whoro a change of clothing coul<} be effected. Apart from a' slight ■ shock. Miss Newman was none the worse for tan un- - pleasant experience. Had a swifter current been -flowing at tie time however the predicament would have been a grave one for the strongest swimmer.
