LYRIC QUARTETTE

A UNIQUE CONCERT PARTY,

CAMBRIDGE AUDIENCE CHARMED Lust night only a fair attendance turned out to hear the Lyric Quartette Concert Party in the Town Hall, but those who did’ not missed a real musical treat. The Lyric Quartette is well known, and combines melody, harmony and mirth to the degree of perfection. The Quartette were strongly reinforced bythe magnificent contralto voice of Miss Jessie Bartlett, who • was perhaps heard to best advantage in "My Ain Folk.” The writer once had the pleasure of hearing Miss Bartlett sing "The Rosary,” to her own accompaniment and has always considered her rendering of that song as superb. The male voices of the company cover the whole range from super-tenor to deep bass, and the quartette numbers were most, effective. The pianoforte playing of Miss ,E. Harvey brought well merited applause from the audience. As a funmaker, Mr Alan McElwain, is , thoroughly in his clement. His characterisation of a garrulous old lady was a masterpiece and caused roars of laughter. Messrs Ripley and Richards the two tenors of the party were particularly fine in their various numbers, and tile pleasing bass voice of Mr Ryan combined with the quaint expression of his features makes him a strong favourite. From first to last the audience were delighted, and the party will be greeted with a bumper house on Saturday next, when a return visit is promised. In addition to the party mentioned above a new feature will be added next week, when New Zealand's most clever lady classic dancer, Miss Bettin a Edwardes will join up. Something very special is promised Cambridge 'for next Saturday and the booking will be heavy.
