x MONDAY, APRIL 17th, (Before Messrs J. London and J. Ferguson, J.’s F.) Two young men from Tauwhare answered a charge of being drunk and disorderly and using obscene language at Tauwhare, on March I’-tth. 'Hie evidence of the police was to the effect that the two accused were drunk on the date mentioned in the charge, and dis turbed an entertainment and used bad language, and though reprimanded by some of those present they persisted in behaving in a disorderly maimer. Mr T. Walshe appeared for the accused, and pleaded for leniency, stating that both the accused bore good characters and drink was the cause of the trouble. In summing up, the Bench said that people in the country had a perfect right to have their entertainments, and as they had no police protection, some people were in the habit of getting drung and causing a disturbance. The using of bad language which the accused were before the Court for using, was disgraceful, and was a distinct breach of the law.
