Death of an Old Maori.
J '■ * ' I WANDERS ABOUT PAH. FRIENDS FRIGHTENED. (Own Correspondent) A Maori old age pensioner named Maru died under distressing circumstances at Maungatautari last Friday nighty He has been blind and frail for years and during the night ho went outside. He was Tunable to nnd his way back and wanderpd about the pah calling for help. Some of the Maoris heard him but were too much frightened to go 6ut : into the darkpess and see what was the matter. The bitterness of the weather proved too much for the unfortunate old fellow whose body was found in the fern next morning. Deceased was a very old man and took an ac* tive part in seme of the big events of the Maori War. He and other members of his family suffered especially at the fighting at Eangiaohia.
