The Towsey Concert.

The decision on the part of Mr and Mrs Cyril Towsey to give a concert in the Town Hall tomorrow night week should be cordially welcomed by music lovers of the town and district. Both are musicians of a high order of merit, and'are certain to submit a programme of’musical and elocutionary items that should please the most fastidious. The English press‘notices regarding .Mrs . Towsey are indeed complimentary, The musical critic of the “Saturday 1 Review” deacriped Mrs Towsy’s voice as one of the finest he had ever heard. The “Daily Mail - ’ critic wrote:—“The beauty .of her voice ' and the excellence of her methods enabled her to sing the works she had selected most' effectively.” Many other English newspapers wrote encouragingly of Mrs*Towsey-s J vocal work, and Cambridge is fortun ate in having an early opportunity of making the acquaintance ?of this singer. , Mr Towsey very early in life dis- , tinguished himself as a pianist and it is. small wonder that he has been honoured with the position of accompanist on one of Madame Melba’s tours. Other great. vocalists have honoured him equally. It is no only in the difficult act of accom- ; paniment playing that Mr Towsey excels, but also in solo playing, and >■ patrons of next week’s concert will experience not a little enjoyment from Mr Towsey’s items., Accompanying the principals will* be Mrs Martyn Williams (elocutionist),, Miss’ Ida . Pearson (violinist), Mrs Ross ' 1 (pianiste), and Mr JB. <N. Wright (tenor), Miss Heywood, Miss Sylvia Williams and Miss D; Henderson. The performers are.new to Cambridge, with the excaption of Mrs Ross, who formerly resided here; Space will not permit of further mention, except ;to ‘say that Mrs Williams was a great favourite with Wellingtqn audiences > where the is well known, Fima should; b a equally welcome here.
