ADVOCATE OF LABOUR UNREST. I rejoice in what is called labour unrest.” This was the reply of Sir William Lever when he was asked in Sydney last week if the co-nartner-ship system inaugurated by his firm was going to prove a panacea for industrial strife. Ido not think, ,} he said, that anything will prevent dissatisfaction. I think when a man is satisfied, he has arrived at that point where he is going to go backwards. Labour unrest is a healthy sign of the times. The higher the energies of the people go, or the greater the improvement in their social condi* tion, the more dissatisfied will the workers become. I use the word h added Sir William, not in the sense of grumbling, but as meaning a determination to climb still higher.” CADET CAMPS/ The Fielding ‘ Sjjar ” enthusiastic about the cadet camp which is being held in that locality/lt says “ The marching of the boys in khaki and shorts through the streets, and the happy spirit in which they march out and return again, even on the broiling hot days, have been sights that have impressed all onlookers and have conquered even prejudiced. No system of training can be bad that finds the students so happy and lively after a heavy day’s work — work that is actually play to the boys- A fine feature, too, is the manner in which the officers, professional and volunteers, associate themselves with' the cadets. On parade, on the march, in time at ease, in the swimming baths, at the evening lectures, and during the social hours the men are but grownup boys. The Defence Department has been late in recognising the possibilities of encampments for cadets, hut the success a r >d enjoyment of the one now in session here should lead to their adopwon throughout the Dominion.
