The General Elections.
USUAL CROP OF PROBABLES
(From our Exchanges.)
It is rumoured that Mr A. Peebles, Chairman of the Bay of Plenty Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, will be a candidate for the Bay of Plenty seat at the next general election in the Opposition interest. The Lyttelton Times states that Mr Russell, formerly Mayor of Greymouth, now a settler on the Hatuma estate, is mentioned as a possible Liberal candidate for Waipawa, m opposition to the sitting member, Mr George Hunter. Star that strong representations are being brouget to bear on Mr George Baildon, Mayor of Grey / Lynn, to contest the Grey Lynn seat against the sitting member, Mr John Payne, at the general election next December.
It is rumored in political circles in Wellington that Sir John Findlay intends contesting the Wellington North seat against the Hon. A-'L. Herdman. Mr Fletcher, chairman ol the Wellington Harbor Board, intends standing for the Wellington Central seat at the next general election against the Hon. F. M. B. Fisher. Rumor has it that there are three other candidates for the seat. There is likelihood of both Mayor Parr and Mr J. H. Gunson (chairman of the Harbour Board) coming out at next election. Mr Parr is likely to stand for Auckland West or Auckland Centre. Mr Gunson will probably be asked to contest Parnell. Both a.re strong men and the indications are that they will style themselves Independent Liberals. If these two get in, and the Hon, George Fowlds for Grey Lynn, with Mr Arthur Myers, Auckland members would in all probability be strong enough to form a new party. The above men are powerful and there are few in the House at present to compare with them, while they could easily command a following. If such eventuated, look how Auckland would leap ahead, for all these politicians are zealous in their efforts for this end of New Zealand
