Queer Epistles
* The. frequency with which weird and often unintelligible epistles are ! received by local bodies would surprise the ordinary citizen, and that these bodies, manage to satisfy the requirements of such a multiplicity cf applicants is a token to their patience. A typical one came before the Southland County Council last week, when the following was read: ' As my neighbours will not allow me to take the Faul the water is flowing on my land that I cannot crop the land as a cannot get Faul. I Drane my land any other Way. Please send answer.” Behind this vague epistle lay a request for permission to deepen a drain, and the members of the Council were able to penetrate its meaning, and the request was granted. We are assured that al-, most, if not quite as weird communications are received at times by the executives of ..local bodies in the Waikato.
