A bad blow to the women’s suffrage movement has been given by a majority of members of the House Rules Committee deciding against the creation of a special committee to deal with the suffrage question. The suffragists had built high hopes, on the promise of the formation of this committee.
Stockholm, Jan. 18
The King of Sweden, in opening Parliament, declared in the course of his speech that justice and the welfare of the State demanded the extension of political rights to women.
London, Jan. 18
Miss Sylvia Pankhurst, in an address at Hackney, advised her hearers not to attend meetings unless they were armed.
