ANNUAL REPORT AND BALANCESHEET. The following report and balance-sheet will be submitted at the annual meeting of the Cambridge Public Library subscribers, to be held in the Reading-room on Monday evening next, at 8 o’clock ; “ Your Committee have again much pleasure in meeting the members of the Corporation and subscribers of the above institution, and submitting, a statement of income and expenditure, together with assets and liabilities. The members’ subscriptions amounted for the year to *75 4s, an increase from last year of £2 Us. The Government subsidy received for the year amounted to £l6 13s, and sale of old books and waste newspapers to £3 8s 6d. The assets, after allowing the usual 5 per cent, for depreciation, amount to £784 3s lOd, and liabilities nil. During the year just closed, 227 new books were added, including ten volumes of the new edition of Harmsworth’s Encyclopedia—one of the best works of reference obtainable. This work has been placed in the Readingroom in a neat glass case, and is available to the general public for reference. During the year the Borough municipal gas has been installed in the building and has proved itself a great convenience to the institution and much more economical. Owing to the many calls upon the public during the past year, no special effort was made to increase the new building fund account, which stands as before at £76 15s lOd, and one year’s interest to be added. During the year your Committee spent the sum of £44 13s 7d on new books, and the library is quite up to date with the literature enjoyed by our subscribers. In conclusion, we again thank the residents of the Cambridge district for their continued support and would invite any who have not yet subscribed to join the institution, and so help to make our Library and Reading-room a place worthy of our towm and district.” Income Total from last year, £ll 11s lid; member’s subscription, £75 4s ; Government subsidy, £l6 3s; sale old books and newspapers, £3 8s 6d. General Account:—Outstanding subscriptions, £5 17s 6d ; building and furniture, £260; hooks, less 5 per cent, depreciation, £sll 10s 6d. Total, £784 3s lOd, Liabilities:—Nil.
