A fire at Blenheim this morning destroyed the Masonic Hotel, Benning’s grocery store and Anstie’s drapery shop. It is reported that Mr T. E. Taylor intends to contest a constituency outside Christchurch, but has not decided which. A fire broke out in the Christchurch hospital. The patients were rescued, but considerable damage was done to the building. The duplication of the Mosgiel-Dune-din Railway line will, in the opinion of Sir Joseph Ward, he completed in twelve months’ time. Chinese documents 2,100 years old have been found on the ruins of an ancient grea,t wall on the Thibetan frontier of the Chinese province of Kan-Su. Mr Winston Churchill expressed himself as astonished at the beauty, fertility, and resources of the countries he had visited in British Equatorial Africa.
