The following is Captain Edwin’s forecast for 24 hours from 9 a.m. to-day : Southerly moderate to strong winds; glass rise slowly. An enjoyable programme of music was rendered by the Town Band in the Domain last evening, before a large number of the public. Mr Chas. Lake, of Cambridge, has been nominated as a candidate for the vacant seat, on the Auckland Land Board. There are 14 other candidates. Voting papers must be returned by February 24th. Certain allegations of neglect of duty on the part of Inspector Purdy, were discussed in committee by Auckland Education Board, and the matter of asking him to hand in his resignation was deferred till next meeting. Mr Wesley Spragg, managing director of the New Zealand Dairy Association, has booked as a passenger for the Old Country by the Corinthic, which leaves New’ Zealand on February 27th. Mr ,Tas. Dean, headmaster of the Cambridge West school, has applied to the Education Board for six months’ leave of absence in order to proceed Home. The trip is being made on account of Mr Dean’s health, which has lately been in an indifferent state. The results of the University examinations held recently show that Miss Doris M. Pilcher, of the Cambridge District High School, was successful in the rilatriculation examination. In the National Scholarships examination, the name of Reginald R. Gow, 590 marks, appears amongst the first 50 names of successful candidates. The hot weather is apparently producing a big thirst on the workmen employed on the new post office clock tower. A red flag, with the words, “ Dry job,” at one end of the building and a brown bottle at the other, is a gentle hint that the men would appreciate some liquid refreshment. The Educatioa Board have accepted the tenders of R. Peace and Son, at £6llos, for loofing Cambridge West School; roofing at Tamahere School, A. G. Blakey, £65 ; roofing at Tauwhare, J. C. Spinley, £47. Amongst the appointments authorised by the Board are the following Miss Jessie Brooks, Te Rare; Miss Annie L. Gavey, assistant to secondary department Cambridge District High School. The monthly meeting of the Rechabites' Lodge was held last evening, C.R. Bro. C. Reid, jun., occupying the chair. Bro. B. Moore was appointed to represent the Lodge at the District Meeting, to be held at Auckland next month. The following officers were installed for the ensuing year:—C.R., Bro. F. Beck; D.R. Bro. B. Moore ; Secretary, Bro. F. J, Marfell; Levite, Bro. J. Livingstone; Stewards, Bros, Cliffen and Thomson; Guardian, Bro. R. Hicks. A meeting of the Fencourt Drainage Board was held yesterday, the whole of the members being present. It was decided to call tenders for completing the lower portion of the main drain at Fencourt, as per specifications prepared by Mr E. J. Fairburn, the engineer for the Board. They will be returnable on Friday, the 31st inst., at 10 a.m., and the Board will meet the same day at 11 a.m. to deal with them. An advertisement re this matter appears in this issue. At the monthly meeting of the Waipa County Council, Mr Chas. Chitty wrote asking for permission to use the old bridge at Cambridge until the close of the milking season. The Council decided to call for tenders for the timber in the bridge, and have a proper barricade erected.—The Town Clerk, Cambridge, asked for payment of £l3B 18s lid in connection with the high level bridge. He intimated that there would then only be a small further demand on the contributing bodies. The amount was passed for payment, and it was agreed to ask the Council what further payments were likely to be required, and why the estimate had been exceeded.

Captain and Mrs Simpson, of the Salvation Army, left Cambridge to-day for Thames, where they have been transferred. Adjutant Marshall, of Blenheim, has been appointed to the charge of the local corps. Mr Frank J. Reynolds, son of Mr R. Reynolds, of “ Trecarne,” Cambridge, arrived in London about a month ago, en route for New Zealand, after having spent three months with his uncle, Mr H. Reynolds, in Argentina.
