WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Waipa County Council was held at the Council Chambers, Ohaupo, on Tuesday. There were present : Crs John Fisher (chairman), E. Allen, Duxfield, Macky, Finch, Rolhwell, Bell and Potts. The Chairman was appointed to represent the Council at a conference of delegates from local bodies, to be held in connection with the proposed scheme for the establishment of electrical power. A special meeting will be held on February 4th, in connection with the alteration of county boundaries. It was resolved to offer the water trough near the old Cambridge bridge, to the Pukekura Road Board, provided that it was erected at the foot of Tucker’s Hill. The Chairman was appointed to represent the Council at a conference to be held in connection with the proposed Waikato-Gisborne stock route. The supervisor’s report was read as follows:—A large amount of work has been done since the last meeting, with a few exceptions contractors have made good progress. Various contracts should be got out, particularly in the Pukekura riding, where a large amount is required. The main road between Ohaupo and Cambridge about 100 chairft, Riley’s late contract, should receive a light coat of say three yards to the chain, and a similar distance requires patching and should receive on an average about two yards to the chain. A contract was let last year and not carried out for regravelling that portion of the Monavale road, between Gray’s corner and the bridge, about 40 chains requiring live yards to the chain. Farther on along the same road is another case of a contract being stopped unfinished. This is a part of the road never before gravelled, and should get 8 yards to the chain, about 27 chains. Another 60 or 70 chains of previously gravelled road requires a fresh coating of 4 yards to the chain to preserve the road. It is mostly near the gravel pit, and should not cost on the average more than 2s per yard. The total cost of these works as above estimated amounts to £152 16s. The work now being done on the “ Long Swamp ” will cost Pukekura about £3O. A considerable amount of metalling work is required in or near Ohaupo, as this road owing to creamery traffic mainly, got cut through very badly last winter. Reference was made to works in progress in the Kihikihi and Te Awamutu districts.
