CRICKET.

CAMBRIDGE v. EOTO-O-EANGL A most enjoyable game was played at Victoria Square, Cambridge, yesterday afternoon, between the above teams, and after a really good exhibition of batting by several members of both teams, victory went to the home team by 89 runs. The visitors, captained by E. B. Cox, a veteran cricketer, won the toss and elected to go to the wickets, Beck and Brindle opened the bowling for the home team and disposed of four wickets for ten runs, when E. B, Cox and W. Simpson put up a partnership, the latter being the first to go with 15 to his credit. E. B. Cox played a splendid innings for 33 runs, without a chance. W. Coates (11) was the only other batsman to make a stand, the innings closing for the fair total of 71. On Cambridge (Heath, captain) going to the wickets against the bowling of E. Cox and W. Simpson, the scoring was slow, two wickets being down for 12, when Court joined Russell (13), who fell to Cox shortly after. Five wickets fell for 41, as Simpson partnered Court, after which runs came quickly, both batsmen playing good cricket. Court (38) eventually had the misfortune to hit wicket, after bringing the total to 81. Crickett and Beck, with 7 and 8 respectively, were the only other batsmen to make any stand, Simpson being splendidly caught in the long field by Peake, the innings closing for 110. The bowling, on the whole, was good —Beck 2 for 21, Brindle 4 for 33, Simpson 3 for 10, Kavanagh 1 for 4, for the home team; and R. Cox 4 wickets, W. Simpson 3, E. B. Cox 2, being successful for the visitors. The fielding on both sides was fair, Wall showing excellent promise in long field. At the conclusion of the match cheers were lustily given for both teams, captains and umpires. The following are the scores;— KOTO 0-RANGE R. Simpson, Ibw, b Beck ... ... 1 C.
