A COLD SNAP. Masterton, This Day. There was a phenomenal fall in the temperature last night, after the recent intense heat, the thermometer showing one degree below freezing point. The weather to-day is fine, but cool. ECLIPSE OF THE MOON. Auckland, This Day. The s.s. Taviuni has returned with the Flint Island Expedition, the leader of which reports that the eclipse of the moon observations on January 3rd were a partial success. There was heavy rain before dawn, but from dawn on the weather improved. The first minute of the eclipse was cloudy, but the remainder clear. Pour good corona' results were obtained by an Bft. focus camera. The negatives of the remaining three cameras were not developed and there are no spectrum results. The American expedition from Lick Observatory obtained similar satisfactory results.
