We hear on good authority that His Excellency the Governor (Lord Plunkctt) will visit the Te Waikato Sanatorium during the present mouth. The High Level Bridge Celebration Committee met yesterday afternoon, and made a number of suggestions which will be brought before the meeting of the Borough Council this evening, Saturday next (King's Birthday) will be observed as a whole holiday in Cambridge and the business places will, in consequence, remain open to-morrow night.

The certificate won by the Hautapu Sunday School at the recent', examination, has been received by Miss M. Watt, and will be on view at the social to be held there shortly. •

St Andrew's Bellringcrs' Club held an enjoyable social in the Sunday Schoolroom last evening, to which a number of friends were invited. Various games wers indulged in, and some selections on the graphapone were also given. Supper was provided.

Owing to the high-price of horsefeed and the scarcity of labour in the Waikato district, the Waipa County Council had the experience of a blank tender list for five" contracts advertised by them for i'oad formation, contractors regarding the labour market as too uncertain to submit a price.

It is reported that Mr N. Banks has sold a portion of the Gwynnclands estate, and Mrs J. Martyn, of Broadmeadows, has purchased a block of 150 acres of the Br'untwood estate, at' the excellent price of £22 per acre. Mr Thompson, late of Opotiki, who has purchased a portion of the same estate, is having a residence erected on the land.

Apologue, ilyrs (Phoebus Apollo—Miss Gladys), who won the Melbourne Gup is the property of Mr 11. Cleland, of Auckland, and was bred at Sylvia Park. He was for sonic time in charge of Mr R.' Hannon the local trainer. Apologue's recent performances on " the other side," must class him as a wonderful performer.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. P. J. Mairs, at the new Primitive Methodist Church, at Fencourt, on Sunday next, morning and evening. On the following Wednesday, a public tea will be held, and at the. after-meeting, addresses will be delivered by several vi ß itf ng ministers. A number. of musical items will also be* given during the evening. '

A deputation consisting of Messrs 11. J. Greensladc and H. Poland, M's.II.R., and Mr J. R. Ilctherington, of Eureka, waited upon the Premier for the purpose of impressing upon him the urgent need for a goodshcd.at the Eureka railway station, also telephonic communication therewith and better postal facilities. The Minister promised to carefully consider the whole matter, and to inform the deputation as soon as possible what he could do.

The Presbyterian General Assembly of New Zealand is in session,in Wellington, and the Rev. Alexander Don, of Dunedin, has been elected Moderator.

Staff-Sergeant-Major Coleman arrived in Cambridge on Tuesday, to superintend the classes of instruction for non-com-missioned officers and members of the No. 8 Waikato Mounted Rifles.,. Fourteen members of the squadron were on Tuesday evening, squad drill being practised and a catechism on outpost, advanced guard and skirmishing subjects was taken. The men present were keenly interested in the work, and it will no doubt be the means of rendering them more efficient in their duties as soldiers in the Defence Forces of New Zealand. Last evening the subjects taken were semaphore signalling and skirmishing, together with the non-commissioned officers exercising the squad in drills, under the supervision of the instructor. This evening the new musketry drill will be taken, and the members instructed in the new methods of using the rifle and the words of command in the field.
