ROTO-O-RANGI NEWS.

(Own Correspondent.) SCHOOL PICNIC. Great activity is being displayed by those who have the carrying out of the arrangements in connection with the annual school picnic and spoits at Gricedale, which will be held on Tuesday next, the 29th inst., in Mr C. Peake’s paddock, opposite the creamery. It is confidently predicted that this year’s picnic will eclipse those of previous years. TELEPHONIC COMMUNICATION.

Believing that the time has arrived when the erection of a line for telephonic communication between Cambridge and-Roto-o-rangi would be of immense benefit to the district, a meeting was held on Thursday evening, in the schoolroom, to discuss the matter, but, in consequence of the meagre attendance, nothing practical resulted, and it was decided to call another meeting shortly, PROGRESSIVE SETTLEMENT. It is pleasing to note the many signs of progress and improvements effected of late in this district, snd what was only three years back dense scrub, swamp and rushes, is now converted into splendid grass land, with handsome dwellings thereon, thus showing a large amount of industry and thrift on the part of the new settlers. Mr Bingham is about to commence operations by the erection of a large dwelling house on his property.
