WAIHI GOLD MINING COMPANY’S APPLICATION. It is stated in Auckland that the Waihi Mining Company have renewed their application to the Government for the right to generate 4,000 h.p. at the Horohora Falls to provide cheap power for crushing low grade ores. The installatione is estimated to cost £70,000, and the Government may take over the. plant at any time at cost price plus 4 per cent. During the period of construction the company guarantee that there will be no loss in coal freights on this branch of the line for a period of five years. The adoption of this scheme, the proposals of which are regarded as being of a most liberal character, would prove a great stimulus to mining in the ‘ Upper Thames district. STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER.
