WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Thursday. There were present:— Messrs J. S. Bond (chairman), Chepmell, Potts, Fisher, Dickinson, Thomas, Somers, Gavin, Bailey, Bell and Primrose. There were 14 applications for the appointment of porter. —Jaimes Smallbone was appointed. Mr Atkins, architect, replied at some length to 'a letter from the Board asking him to define the duties of a clerk of works. —Decided to advertise for applications for this position. Nurse E. F. Murray wrote resigning her position as charge nurse, and asked to be relieved of her duties by middle of January.—Accepted. After a long discussion, it was decided to accept the offer of the Public Trustee for the loan of £10,009; at a rate not to exceed 5 per cent., the loan to have a 'currency of 20 years. Dr Frengley was present, at the invitation of the chairman, for the purpose of advising the Board as to the working of the septic tank, and as to the fitness as regards purity of the borough water for* use at the hospital. The doctor said that the water had not been the cause of typhoid. Dr Makgill had reported, after analysis, that it was wonderfully good. The water was quite fit for the consumption of the hospital patients. As to the septic tank, measures required to be taken to keep out surface water, and the tank would work satisfactorily. The number of patients at present is 53—41 males and 12 females.
