Antwerp, September 29. *1 he Germans occupied Malines and'bombarded the foils of Wallen and Wavre-St. Catherne, south of Antwerp, without result. The forts replied to the bombardment, which then ceased. The forts inflicted serious losses on the Germans, who were advancing near the Dender. The Germans withdrew. Received 1.30 a,in., Ist, London, September 30. The Germans are recommencing to endeavour to encircle Termonde, and have sent a thousand Uhlans into the town. Mitrailleuses cleverly posted, mowed down many. After the Germans had some success at A lost the Belgians cut off and captured 120, and drove the Germans from the town, where they had been firmly established for several weeks, retiring three miles. The Germans bombarded the abandoned town, and did great damage. The Germans also attacked ~’ o Wallen, using 17 heavy guns from Liege, requiring special concrete beds. Two thousand German dead have been found as the result of Saturday’s fighting. The Belgians estimate that there have been 10,000 German dead in the five days’ fighting, mostly members of the Landwuhr, many being over 50 years of age. Though Termonde has been fou< times bombarded and twice deliberately set ablaze the burgomaster and his two daughters, aged 16 and 17, remained in the town as voluntary nurses. Food is so scarce in Brussels that the German administration is finding i difficulty to supply the 180,000 civilians, who are applying for rations.j
