KASIER IN COMMAND OF TWELVE ARMY CORPS. FIERCE BATTLE RAGING SINCE SUNDAY. GERMANS REPULSED AT SEVERAL POINTS. AUSTRIAN AND GERMAN FORCES EFFECT A JUNCTION Received I.JO a.rn., Ist. Petrograd, September 30. The Kaiser is commanding twelve array corps in Eastern Prussia.
A fierce battle between Generals Rennenkainptf and Hindenberge lias been raging since Sunday morning, the front extending from Grodons to Drusneniki. Four army corps are engaged on both sides. The Russians are being constantly reinforced from Vilna, and have already repulsed the Germans at several points. The Germans’ object is to cut the railway between Warsaw and Vilna. A new German army corps has junctioned with the remnant of the Austrians in Galicia, and the combined army is in contact with the Russians in the Carpathians, on the Tarnow-Gracow front.
