Sydney, July 22. The New Zealand Rugby football team inflicted a severe defeat upon New England at Armidale today. The seres were: New Zealand 35 New England 6 Received 10.20 a.m., 23rd. Sydney, July 23. During the Armidale match O'Brien, the New Zealand full-back, had his leg broken, while tackling a local player. He ia now in the hospital. At half-time the scores were:— New Zealand 8, New England 0. The visitors shone brilliantly in the second half, and prevented the loial men from further scoring. The New Zealanders were tendered a civic reception in the Town Hall. FOOTBALL TEAMS FOR PANAMA. Received 9.50 a.m , 23rd. Melbourne, July 23. On the strength of the argument that it would prove a valuable advertisement for Australia, the Minister for Public Works has promised to recommend that a substantial sum be given to assist the funds for sending two football teams, picked from all the States, to give exhibition matches in connection with the Panama Exhibition.
