New Zealand Trade

BRITAIN UNCONCERNED

AT GERMANY'S ENTRY

London, June 16,

British shipowners regard with equanimity Germany's proposed entry into the New Zealand trade. They are confident of holding their own. No Dominion, they say, is more loyal than New Zealand, and it will rest with the British manufacturers to guarantee their terms for all •lasses of goods equal to any offered in Germany. Berlin, June 16. The Government is prolonging the agreement with the Nord-Deutscher Lloyd for its service to Australia. THE CANADIAN MARKETS. Received 9.35 p.m , 16th. Ottawa, June 16. According to Mr W. E. Beddoe, trade commissioner for New Zealand, New Zealand exporters are arranging lor Sun Francisco and New York importers to accept increased consignments. The Canadian trade is likely to be affected if New Zealand's tariir on United States manufactured articles can be reduced. He says that strong pressure is the apparent cure for this. New Zealand exporters arc naturally favouring concessions to a country which has opened for them new markets. On the other hand, a strong feeling prevails on the subject of dealing within the British Empire's confines if such can be done advantageously.

AN IMPORTANT MOVE. THE GERMAN INVASION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. The New Zealand Times declares that a most important move in connection with Germany's assault on Australasian trade has just come to light. Two trade commissioners, appointed by the Association for World Commerce, will arrive in New Zealand about the beginning of September. One will take up permanent quarters in Wellington, and the other will be stationed in Australia. Later it is intended to open a branch office for the German Trade Commissioner in Auckland. It is understood that the two commissioners will have .£25,000 to spend on advertising.
