AUCKLAND v. SOUTH AUCKLAND. This annual fixture was decided on the Cambridge course yesterday, singles being played in the morning and a four-ball match in the afternoon. Intermittent showers and a stiff breeze militated against anything like good all-round play. However, in one or two instances, players'rose superior to the weather conditions, notably Sharland and P. Upton, who put up a local record in the four-ball event with a round of 75. South Auckland won the singles by 6 games to 5, but lost the fourball by 4 games to G. South Auckland was i.ot represented by the strongest available players, but the same has also to be said in regard to the Auckland Club's representatives, several of whom played on the course for the first time yesterday. FOUR-BALL MATCH. Sharland and Upton beat Gillies and J. Banks, 5 and 4. Hickson and Hay beat Nicoll and Dunbar, 2 and I. Binney and Foote beat Weils and Winter, 2 and 1. Stringer and D. Hay lost to N. Banks and Kusabs, 1 up. Carr and Finn beat" Fraser and Mcßride, 2 up. Henderson and Arthur lost to Nelson and \V. Hunter, 1 up. WINTER SHOW TOURNAMENT. The tournament under the auspices of the Hamilton Golf Club in connection with the Waikato Winter Show was opened at the St. Andrews (New Zealand) Links at Te Kapa this morning, and will be continued tomorrow and Saturday. The first two mornings will be occupied with medal handicaps, and the afternoons with bogey handicap, while the Waikato Winter Show Challenge Cup will be competed for on Saturday in a round of 3G holes. There are a large number of visiting golfers engaged, and some interesting play may be anticipated. Invitations have been issued by the captain of the Hamilton Club to an At Home on Saturday afternoon, when the trophies won during the tournament will be presented by Mrs F. Ernest Smith, wife of the president of the Winter Show Association.
