HAUTAPU
A very successful entertainment was given in the Hautapu Hall on Friday evening, in aid of the Hautapu scholars’ prize fund, when the building was taxed to its utmost capacity, and in fact some could not gain admission. Those attending were welcomed in a terse speech by little Miss Dorothea Newcomhe, and the following pupils of the school contribtucd recitations:—Thelma Banks, B. Calloway, H, Kite, T. Hargreaves, G. Heaslip, S. Kite, D. Banks, K. Heaslip and L. Hall, Messrs C. Hargreaves, R. Newcomhe and Martin Casey also recited. Songs were well rendered by Mesdames Isherwood, Edmonds, Newcomhe and Green, Messrs H. W. Smales, T. Boyce and T. Ritchie, and Mr and Mrs 1,. Green gave a vocal duet. Mrs Goodwin and Miss Alma Cowling and the Misses Gladys and Kathleen Discombe played piano duets. The accompanists were Madame Isherwood, Messrs M. McDermott and Wurr (Hamilton). Owing to the indisposition of Miss Edmiston, who is away on sick leave, Miss Crickett had finished the training of the pupils, and before the audience separated the children gave an exhibition of dancing that reflected credit upon their instructors. The hall was then cleared and the adults had a most enjoyable dance. All present voted the entertainment one of the best ever held at Hautapu, and the performers were heartily thanked for the pleasure they had given.
