One of the chief troubles of dairymen is feeding the calves. When a mob of about 70 bellowing brutes are waiting to be fed sometimes all of them do not get attention and the feeder has some excuse. A useful, home-made calf-feeding bucket will be on view at the show today, neat the weight-guessing stand, which should attract some attention.

On Saturday last, at Messrs J. R. Fow and Go’s, auction mart, Mr Sycamore, the well-known bacon curer, of Newstead, offered all his show exhibit of hams, shoulders, rolled and straight sides, under the hammer. A good deal of interest was aroused, and there was good competition, the top price being 12Jd per lb for the rolled sides of barleyfed bacon. High prices ruled right through, the lowest being IOJd per lb for shoulder pieces.

A meeting of the executive committee of the Waikato Military Gymkhana was held in the Defence Office, Hamilton last night. Arrangements in connection with the sports meeting on 23rd Inst, were practically completed, and the secretary reported that excellent entries had been promised for the various events. It was decided to invite the Governor to attend the show and to enlist the support of the Mayor and Mr J. A. Young in endeavouring to arrange for his visit.

Thegeyseisat Rotorua have been unusually active of late, the climax being reached on Friday afternoon, when Pohutu gave a fine exhibition, which lasted for nearly three hours. A magnificent movement was also made by the Cauldron, which rose to a height of about 20ft. Pohucu was active on Thursday morning, when it played for about four hours. In the afternoon it was active for about twenty minutes. Other wellknown geysers have of late been more or less active.
