Southern tomato growers have suffered severe losses through the wet and boisterous weather that has been experienced this spring. 'lhe recent southerly storm which swept Wellington played havoc with the tomato crops generally, and did a good deal of damage to potatoes. In many cases in the Hutt Valley tomato growers had their crops ruined. One grower estimates that he lost 30,000 plants and another 10,000, whilst several other losses running into four figures are reported. The season is so far advanced that the growers in question cannot procure grown plants to re-stock, and it is now too late to grow the plants from seed, so that the growers who have had this setback are in a sad plight. Rust of the mind is the blight of the abilities.—Seneca. Never prolong a reconciliation and never forget it!
