Boats and Bathing. Mr Buckland thought some attempt might be made to encourage bathing at the old bathing place in the lake. Mr Souter asked what about the doctors' opinion that it was not safe to bathe in. Dr. Roberts said he would certainly not like to bathe in it. Mr Souter said many people would like to see pleasure boats on the lake. While at New I’lymouth recently he noticed that the wild ducks took no notice of the boats, evidently having got quite used to them. Mr Buckland said doubtless boats would be a great attraction. Mr Souter said that previously he had been opposed to boats on the lake, but he had altered his opinion since his visit to New Plymouth, where they have two boats on the lake. The board here might even supply the boats. Ur. Roberts pointed out that this would mean the employment of a caretaker, as someone would require to look after the boats and collect the fees. It would be better to allow private people to run them. The chairman said they might find it best to give aomeon j an annual license for pleasure boats. At any rate he favoured the bathing. Mr Buckland said he would like to see bathing and a couple of boats. As for boats it would be a good time now to start them, as there would be no duck shooting season this year.
