Waikato Hospital Board.

The Waikato Hospital Board met in Hamilton yesterday. There were present: Messrs Bell, chairman, Fisher, McGuirk, Dickinson, Somers, T. Clarkin, Paterson, Bailey, Keeley and Thomas. Maori Probationer.—

The Hospital Department wrote stating that with regard to the Maori probationer, though the Act provided for State payment of such nurses it was customary for the various boards to pay them in the same manner as other nurses. No definite reply could be sent until the return of the Inspector General. Miss Rewi, Maori probationer, wrote tendering her resignation and asking to be relieved of her duties at an early date. Superintendent’s Report.—

Dr. Douglas reported as follows: — Number of patients at last return, 47 males, 18 females; admitted since, 33 —2; deaths, s—l; discharged 37 —l4; remaining at date, 48—17. The following deaths had occurred during the month:—John Franklin, Charles Alexander McLachlan, Louisa Osborne, Simon Peacock, George Smith, James Lea. —Thanks. — A vote of thanks was passed to the Surgical Supply Company for a donation of £3. —Treasurer’s Report.— The treasurer reported as follows; —Receipts: Cambridge Borough, £2l Is 9d; Te Aroha, £l7 16s; old age pensions, £ls 3s 4d; rents, £1 16s 6d; donations, £6 2s; fees, £72 17s lid; total, £137 17s 6d. Dr. loan account, £9652 2s sd; credit general, £lll 15s. Local bodies dr., Waikato, £108; Piako £374 19s 8d; Waipa, £149 7sßd; Kawhia, £7O 10s; Frankton, £37 2s 8d; total £740. The board should enjoin the strictest economy for a few months as far as new items were concerned. He had applied for £95 13s Government subsidy and there is £45 17s 9d to apply for. To ease the finance he had applied for an advance payment of £SOO on acount of subsidy on unpaid local bodies’ contributions, and thought it would be forthcoming. The amounts due by the local bodies should how'ever, be pressed for.—Adopted. —Probationer Nurse.— Miss Swayne, of Hamilton, was appointed to act as probationer nurse. —Accounts. — The following accounts were passed for payment:—Barton and Ross, £l3 Is 6d; N.
