Local Option Poll.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night.

The recount of votes in the Waitemtaa electorate shows that reduction has been carried by the narrow margin of four votes, and 190 more would have secured No-license. This will mean that as there are at present time 11 hotels in Waitemata, the incoming committee will either close two or three in response to the mandate of the electors. The following is a list of the hotels in the district: —Masonic, Devonport, Chas. Summers; Esplanade, Devonport, John Bray ; Lake House, Takapuna, W. Bright; Northcote Hotel, T. W. Allen; Riverhead Hotel, T. W. Deacon; Lucas' Creek, Alex. Stevenson; YVaiwera Hotel, Thos. Mincher; Wade Hotel, W. Scholium; Warkworth Hotel, W. U. Smith; Kumeu Hotel, H. W. Deacon, jun. ; I'uhoi Hotel, John Scholium.

Licenses carrying endorsements are first considered when closing hotels, then come houses in which there is little or no accommodation for boarders, the committee having to consider the interests and convenience of the public, when considering this question. The final figures for the recount were not available until Saturday evening, and were as follow :

Continuance ... ... 2459 Reduction 2964 No-license ... ... 30(>2 Valid votes, 5920.

The recount in connection with the representation poll of the Manukau electorate was commenced this morning-. The returning ofliccr, Mr Brooklield, expects to complete the scrutiny tonight, ancfthen the work of recounting the votes cast on the local option question will be commenced. This will probably mean that the result of the Parliamentary election will be known tonight, and that the scrutiny of the local option voting will be undertaken tomorrow, and the final result known tomorrow night.

Auckland, Last Night. The official result of the local option poll in Parnell is: Continuance -(>o'2 Reduction 3108 No-license ou'6-1 Valid votes 6509. Reduction is carried, and no-license lost by 2,'!1).
