By Telegraph.--Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Allen Ronald Collins, 15 years of age, who had been missing from his home since Wednesday, was found dead in a rabbit burrow. He had evidently crawled into the hole after a rabbit, and was unable to g t out. At the Supreme Court Kennedy Thompson, charged with breaking and entering, was sentenced to twelve months, hard labour. R. J. linden, alias Jack Woodward, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for stealing.* Patrick Small, on a retrial for assault on a little girl at HiKUrangi, was acquitted. John W. Adamson was found guilty on a charge of indecent .assault and sentence deferred until Wednesday. Wellington, Last Night. The racing pony, VVarnote, by Soult, which won a race at Miramar last Saturday,was killed at Masterton yesterday. The pony was being exercised by the owner, H. Abbott, when the stirrup leather broke, Abbott being thiown and rendered insensible. The pony bolted into Masterton, skidded on the roadway, ami fell with terrific force against a cart, dying within a quarter of an hour. At the Supreme Court Tobias Miller was tried for severely wounding Ernest High at Masterton with a revolver. Jealousy was the cause-al-leged, but the prosecutor denied any criminal intimacy between himself and Mrs Miller. Accused was a man given to drink. The ju.y found him guity and recommended him to mercy, on the ground of great provocation. Sentence was deferred. Wellington, Last Night. Hon. R. McNab leaves for Mataura next week and is expected to resign on Thursday. He intends to devote himself for the present to his historical researches on early New Zealand. Hokitika, This Day. Shortly after midnight the Empire Hotel, one of the oldest established hostelries on the Coast was burned down. The building was insured for £750 and the furniture for £SOO. Christchurch, This Day. At the Supreme Court Robert Baxter was sentenced to seven years for indecent assault on a child of four years. Henry Crimshaw, aged ~'l, was sentenced to two years for attempting to ha»e carnal knowledge. Alexander Johnstone, sixty one years, was sentenced to 12 months o:i a charge of indecent assault.
