. Melbourne, January 6. The test match was resumed in weather extremely hot. About 9000 spectators were present. The Australians were soon disposed of, their innings having occupied 6 hours 25min. The Englishmen, requiring 282 runs to win, began their second innings. The batsmen displayed great caution, consequently scoring was very slow, and when the stumps were drawn for the day, had lost four wickets for 159.
