South Africa.

THE FEDERATION MOVEMENT. Capetown, July 24. The Assembly unanimously passed M. Malan’s resolution urging the Cape Government to approach the other South African Governments with a view to federation. Mr Malan estimated that federation would be achieved in five years. Dr. Jamieson, in seconding the motion, advised the federationists to hasten slowly. He expected that when the intercolonial conference on customs and railways concluded its business early in 1908, it would proceed to consider the preliminaries in connection with federation, thus paving the way for a national convention elected by the people.
