[BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DIVORCE. Wellington, Last Night. Sitting in divorce to-day, his Honor the Chief Justice granted decrees nisi in the cases of Annie Blackmore v. Sydney Blackmore and Ellen Friers v. Alfred Friers. In the case of Stephen Leonard Parsons, who sought a declaration that his marriage with Constance Mansfield was a nullity, his Honor granted the order as prayed. In this case defendant had married petitioner before an order making absolute from the former husband had been granted. FARMERS AND THE LAND BILL, Dunedin, Last Night. At a meeting of the executive of the Otago Farmers’ Union, the following resolutions were adopted: (I) This executive approves of the action of the Advisory Board regarding the Land Bill, and urges it to complete the proposed arrangements for placing the farmers’ views before the country. (2) This executive emphatically expresses its strong disapproval of the general principles of the proposed Land Bill, and agrees that the colonial president’s action be highly approved. IMPORTANT MINERAL DISCOVERY. Westport, Last Night. Messrs Johnson Bros., the discoverers of the Mount Radiant mineral belt, north of Westport, have returned from a visit to the vicinity with scwt of stone containing gold, silver, copper, and molybdenite. The stone is of an exceedingly fine quality, and seems to place beyond doubt that a rich mineral field has been discovered. Messrs Johnson Bros, intend taking the stone to the Exhibition to place it in either the Buller or Nelson courts. Disappointment is expressed now that Dr Bell has not seen his wy to visit the locality and express his opinion on the discovery. TECHNICAL EDUCATION FOR GIRLS, . Dunedin, This Day. At the breaking-up ceremony of the Girls’ High School, Miss Marehant, the principal, said when in Wellington recently, she had urged on the Minister for Education, the desirableness of the substitution of technical subjects for some of the memory subjects, so as to relieve the pressure on girls attending secondary schools. The Minister had given her a verbal assurance that something of the sort would be done. ALLEGED CONCEALMENT OF BIRTH, Dunedin, This Day, An inquest was opened on a child of Mary Harvey, a girl of 19, which was found concealed in her room in a boarding-house. She alleged that it was born dead, and the inquest was adjourned to ascertain whether this was so, MINISTERIAL VISIT. Thames, This Day. The Hon. McGowan’s and Millar’s visit is awaited with interest as a number of matters await adjustment, including foreshore adjudication, trawling limits, river limits, etc. Mr McGowan is expected to deal with the deep level scheme for which J510,000 is available.
