An old man of the Old Men’s Refuge, Hamilton, named Jas. O’Shea, who developed violent syuq loins yesterday, was this morning committed to the Avondale Asylum.

Mr F. vV. Lang, has received the following letter from the Minister for Railways : —“ lam in receipt of your letter of the 26th inst. with reference to trucking yards and road at the new railway station at Hamilton, and in reply have to say that the matter will receive consideration.”

The air is full of saleyards at the present time, and if all the proposals are carried out Hamilton should be well provided for in this respect. Mr J. McCarthy now expresses his intention of erecting yards and putting in a siding on his Plankton property just behind the Waikato Bacon Factory, and says he will have sales going there before the end of the year. The St Peters’ Girls’ Guild will give an entertainment at Whatawhata to-morrow evening. The programme will consist of a good concert, and the comedy “ Crossed Love ” so successfully given by the members of the guild recently in Hamilton. A dance will follow and refreshments will be provided. The members of the guild have expressed their intention of going out no matter what the weather may be, and they hope they will be accorded a full house.

On Friday next at their Waihon yards Messrs McNicol and Co. will offer a full yarding of stock. Amongst the entries are 190 well-bred steers from 2.1 to 3 years old, 70 of them off turnips ; 200 eattle, chiefly steers, from one to two years old ; 150 well-bred calves ; 70 choice dairy cows and heifers, including 20 really good cows close to profit from Mr John Turnbull; IGO crossbred ewes, from 2-tooth to fresh full mouth, close to lambing; several good draught horses, broken and unbroken, and a number of farm implements in good order.

The chopping match which was to have been held on Sydney Square, Hamilton, this morning, in order that Mr West might obtain a film for exhibition at the Alhambra Theatre, London, had to ho abandoned owing to the weather. Mr West proceeds to Rotorua to-day, whither he will be accompanied by Messrs D. Pretty and Casey, and should tho weather improve the picture will be taken there along with others.
