RESIGNATION OF COL. PORTER. Wellington, Last Night. Colonel Porter has resigned his position as Under-Secretary for Defence, and has severed his connection with the defence forces of the colony. Ho has taken a position as president of the Kawati Maori Council, and will be stationed on the East Coast, la this capacity he will he able to influence large areas of native land being thrown open tor settlement.
