The increase for the week ' ending April 23 was 5241 b over the preceding week. All the Whangarei fac- \ toriea have been closed, which accounts » for part of the increase. i HAMILTON STOCK SALE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. (Limited) report:— At our Hamilton monthly stock sale on Thursday we had a large yarding of cattle aud sheep, some 600 head. There was a good attendance of buyers, and bidding was fairly brisk, prices ruling for good cattle up to usual rates. Rest Bteera and bullocks realised from £8 3s 6d to £9 13a ; lighter weights, horn £4 5s 6d to £6 15s ; prime quiot cows and heifers, made from £5 5s to £7 15s ; aged cows and small heifers, from £3 10s to £5. The prize stock entered on account of Wm. Rutsell were passed in at £9 08 to £9 17s 6d ; good caives realised from £,l 7s fad to £2 3s. ' Average prices to-day : Canterbury mut- > ton, 4jd per lb; tor other brands and North Island mu;ton, 4£d. The lamb , market is steady, and prospects for the i sale of New Zealand lamb this season aie ' good. Average prices to-day: Canter- / bury brands, sjjd per lb; brands other Canterbury, sgd. There is a better demand for beef. Average prices today : Hindquarteis oi New Zealand beef, 3£d per 10; fores, 2gd. The butter market is dull. Buyers are holding off on account of large supplies coming forward, aud will not purchase more than will supply immediate requirements. The present is the worst butter market experioncod during the paßt 10 years. Average price ot choicest New Zealand butter to-day, Bb's per cwt; Australian, S4s; Argentine, 83s; Danish, 93a ; Siberian, SOs. The cheeso marttet is falling heavily and very depressed, and likely to remain so. A new make of Canadian ia offering at 38s per cwt c.i.f. Average price of fineßt New Zealand cheese to-day is 44a per cwt. The hemp market is steady, with no chaDge in ** prices. The cocksfoot seed market is steady, and not in much demand, but prices are firm, and I anticipate no immediate changes in the market.
