Thk New Zealand Loan and Mebcantile Agency Co- (Ltd.) report:— Ab our Ohaupo aalo on Tuesday we yarded 500 head of good cattle, principally steers from yearlings to olds. Prices were inclined to be a Utile lower, and a few lines were reserved at auction, but were afterwards disposed of before leaving the yard*. MrSohnaekenberg's cattle were a choice lot. The two-year*old steers realised £5 ss; yearlings and 18-monthß steers, £3 13s to £4 14s ; 18-monthß and two-year-old heifers, £3 lis to £4, The 100 head of mixed cattle from Te Mata were a good lot. Empty cows fetched £3 10s to £4 2s ; 24-year steers, £5 ; yearling and 18montbs steers, £3 8s to £4 10s. From local sellers three-year-old steers realised £6' ss; strong calves (mixed sexes), £2 7s to £2 10s ; choice yearlings (mixed sexc) up to £3 3s ; low-conditioned calves and yearlings (mixed sexes), £1 15s to £2 5s ; treah-conditioned heifers, £4 12s to £5 ; fat heifers, £6 ; fat steers, £7 17*. Sixty dairy cows and springing heifers were yarded, and anything really good elicited keen competition, best cows making from £8 to £lO, springing heifers £6 10s to £9 os, backward heifers £5 5b to £5 15s ; a few fat sheep 20s each.

The attendance at the Durham yards on Friday waa good and bidding brisk. Heavy draughts soli! at from £3l 10a to £4O laa; medium, £'2o to £34 10a; back and light harness, £8 to £lB 12s 6d ; weeds, £2 10a to £5 15a ; a apring cart made £l2s; tax cart, £l3. Cattle: At the Newmarket yarda on Tuesday there was an average muster of dairy and store cattle yarded and a full maater of beef. Dairy cowa sold at from £4 to £8 15s ; empty cowa, £3 la to £4 12a ; calvea, £1 14s to £2 9a. Bidding for beef waa scarcely up to last week's prices, although the quality was excellent. Cxen sold np to £1 <Js 1001 b ; rows, l!)a to 245. Steers sold at from £7 5a to £l4 2a 6d ; cows, £5 10a to £9 17a 6d. Sheep: Sheep were yarded in full numbers at N«wmarket on Tuesday. Competition waa very keen. Wethers sold at from 17a tid to £1 13s ; ewes, 15a 3d to £1 7a; hoggets, Ida 6d to £1 ; spring lambs, lis 6d to 16s b'd. Some of the Waikato averages of sheep were : Matamata Estate, 194 wethera, £1 8s Gd ; Woodlanda Estate, 162 wethers, £1 Ss, ditto ewea, £1 5s (id ; a truck of ewes from Cambridge, £1 7a- Pigs: Piga were yarded in larger numters than usual. Porkers aold at from £1 14s 9d to £2 19» ; weancra, 15a 6d to £1 lis. At Pukekohe on Wednesday there was a good muster of cattle of all descriptions, dairy cowa being especially well represented. Sheepskins : Market easier ; we quote :—Best butchers' skins, 4s 6d to 5s ; country ditto., 3s to 4s 2d ; other lines, 2a to 2a 9d. Tallow : Beßt lines for tanners' uae, £1 4s 3d ; other liDoa, £1 to £1 3a 6d. Horßehair, Is Id. 1; mea, 4a 6d. Cow tails, la sd. Maize : Shipments have eaßed off a little, i. .id the market is more settled ; aales were made freely at 2s 9d on wharf for wholesale lines. Oats; The demand is poor for feed lines ; 33 grades are qnoted at la lid to 2s c.i.f. Wheat and Chaff : No change to report. Potatoes: Southern are selling at £4 5s on wharf; good local are worth from £3 10s to £4, according to quality. Butter: Factory in better supply with good enquiry ; bulk 8f d, rolls lO.ld ; farmers' separator meets with ready sale up to !)j-d for good quality. Cheese getting into small compass; loaf unobtainable ; medium 6d ; large, s : ,'d (nominal).

London markets, Wellington, La9t Night.—The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Agent-General, dated London, September 12th :—There is a better demand for mutton, the market is firmer at prices cabled last week. The lamb market has been unfavourably affected by damaged carcases, bat the downward movement is not likely to last. Average prices to-day are :—Canterbury brand, 4jd per lb ; brands other than Canterbury, 4:, I '.!. The beef market continues dull. Average prices |to-day: Hindquarters New Zealand beef, 4:1 : fores, 2}d. There has been no alteration in the butter market since last week. The cheese market is firm with a spot demand for good average. The price to-day for finest Canadian is 53s per cwt, The hemp market has advanced, and is particularly active for future delivery. Prices of New Zealand hemp, good fair Wellington grade, on upot today, £32 to £32 10s per ton ; September to December shipments, £32 ; January to March shipments, £3l 10s. The price of Muuil i hemp, fair current grade on the spot to-day, is £35 per ton. The cocksfoot market is firmer at prices cabled last week. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.
