Thk New Zealand Loan and Mebcantile Agency Co- (Ltd.) report:— Ab our Ohaupo aalo on Tuesday we yarded 500 head of good cattle, principally steers from yearlings to olds. Prices were inclined to be a Utile lower, and a few lines were reserved at auction, but were afterwards disposed of before leaving the yard*. MrSohnaekenberg's cattle were a choice lot. The two-year*old steers realised £5 ss; yearlings and 18-monthß steers, £3 13s to £4 14s ; 18-monthß and two-year-old heifers, £3 lis to £4, The 100 head of mixed cattle from Te Mata were a good lot. Empty cows fetched £3 10s to £4 2s ; 24-year steers, £5 ; yearling and 18montbs steers, £3 8s to £4 10s. From local sellers three-year-old steers realised £6' ss; strong calves (mixed sexes), £2 7s to £2 10s ; choice yearlings (mixed sexc) up to £3 3s ; low-conditioned calves and yearlings (mixed sexes), £1 15s to £2 5s ; treah-conditioned heifers, £4 12s to £5 ; fat heifers, £6 ; fat steers, £7 17*. Sixty dairy cows and springing heifers were yarded, and anything really good elicited keen competition, best cows making from £8 to £lO, springing heifers £6 10s to £9 os, backward heifers £5 5b to £5 15s ; a few fat sheep 20s each.

Some of the Waikato averages of sheep were : Matamata Estate, 194 wethera, £1 8s Gd ; Woodlanda Estate, 162 wethers, £1 Ss, ditto ewea, £1 5s (id ; a truck of ewes from Cambridge, £1 7a- Pigs: Piga were yarded in larger numters than usual. Potatoes: Southern are selling at £4 5s on wharf; good local are worth from £3 10s to £4, according to quality. Butter: Factory in better supply with good enquiry ; bulk 8f d, rolls lO.ld ; farmers' separator meets with ready sale up to !)j-d for good quality. London markets, Wellington, La9t Night.—The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Agent-General, dated London, September 12th :—There is a better demand for mutton, the market is firmer at prices cabled last week. The lamb market has been unfavourably affected by damaged carcases, bat the downward movement is not likely to last. Average prices to-day are :—Canterbury brand, 4jd per lb ; brands other than Canterbury, 4:, I '.!. The beef market continues dull. Average prices |to-day: Hindquarters New Zealand beef, 4:1 : fores, 2}d. There has been no alteration in the butter market since last week. The cheese market is firm with a spot demand for good average. The price to-day for finest Canadian is 53s per cwt, The hemp market has advanced, and is particularly active for future delivery. Prices of New Zealand hemp, good fair Wellington grade, on upot today, £32 to £32 10s per ton ; September to December shipments, £32 ; January to March shipments, £3l 10s. The price of Muuil i hemp, fair current grade on the spot to-day, is £35 per ton. The cocksfoot market is firmer at prices cabled last week. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.
