RUSSIA AT HOME. St. I'ETKBSB'OBO. September 15. Reports received here suy that disturbances have taken place amongst the 4rrueni'iii population of Alexandrople and Tiflis. The cause of the trouble is that the Czar, at tbe instance of M. Pobiedomtzeff. ex-Pro-curator of the Holy Synod, M. Plehve, Misiater of the Interior, and General Prince Galitzm, Governor of tbe Caucasus, is authorising tbo seizure of the property of the Armenian Church in theCauuusus amounting to 113,000,000 roubles (some £18.000,000). The Armenians are greatly excited, and threaten to transfer the headquarters of their church to Sis, the religious capital of Turkish Armenia. ALASKA BOUNDARY COMMISSION. London, September 15. The Alaskan Boundary Commission has opened and is holding dairy sittings in Londou, Lord Alverstono, Lord Chancellor, presiding. Sir R. B. Finlay, the Attorney-General, in his opening speech, explained that the disputed territory was of extreme value to Canada, as affording access to tbe Pacific, and declared that the United States boundary had been drawn in ostentatious defiance of the treaty of 1825. RELIGIOUS WAR IN FRANCE. Paris, September 15. The French Premier (M. Combes), in inaugurating a statue of the famous rationalist theologian, M. Renan, at Tregiues, admitted that the State was now at open warfare v/irh the clergy, whose passive resistance of the Religious Association's Bill was really an active mutiny.
POSTAL FRAUDS.
London, September 15
Walter John Richards, principal clerk of the Postal Department at Somerset House, and Anthony Buck Creeke, solicitor, have been sentenced at Old Bailey to six months' imprisonment on a charge of certain mutilated official stamps. Creeke acted as intermediary, selling io dealers.
THE AMERICAS NAVY. Washington, September 15. The United States Navy Department is asking Congress for an appropriation of a hundred million dollars, a portion to be devoted to turbine scouts.
