PACKET LICENSES.
(BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION) "Wellington, Last Night. Judgment in the first packet license case was reserved and another case then came before the Court. Ou the motion for a writ of certiorari to qaash the packet licence granted by the Wanganui Licensing Committee, to J. Murdoch plying between Castlecliffe and Whenuatere. The grounds of the motion were : was one taking effect within tdocks or ureas of native laud proclaimed by the Government under the Act of ISBI, and was therefore unlawful, aod (2) that the Committee refuned the proper opportunity to objectors who had given due notice of their intention to object, to hear their witnesses and counsel in tion to the grant of licenses. The Court raised the point whether tha river can be regarded an Dative land and subject to the section of th« Act en which the case turns. Judgmeut was reserved.
