THE BLACKBERRY QUESTION.
(BY TELECHAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, Last Night. The question nt poisoning blackberry bushes was referred to at a meeting of the Hawkes' Bay County Council. The Chairman drew attention to the hardships settlers were subject to in their efforts to comply with the law. They were compelled, he said, to clear briars even to the mid lie of the roads, but as they could not very well dig up the roads to get at the roots, the only course open to them was to poison them. This, however, they were not permitted to do. As bushes were usually thickest on the lines of road, the chairman thought representations should be made to secure an alteration in the law in the direction of permitting poisoning during the fruiting season.
