A most enjoyable picnic was held in Mr W. Gibbisou's paddock, Kauroa, on Thursday. The weather was all that could be desired, and the day, although occasionally hot, was very pleasant. However, under the spreading branches of Mr Gibbison's trees, ample shade was available. There was a large gathering of all ages from various parts of the district. After arriving, the time up to the dinner hour was filled iu with games of various kinds, but the display of good things provided soon led to the discontinuance of play, and the principal business of the day with the young folk 3 was entered into with great heartiness. The wants of all were well attended to by the Misses A. Hill, A.Armstrong, and Mrs C. McDonald, ably assisted by a uumber of willing helpers. Dinner over, games of all descriptions were organised. Teatime coming round, the circle was once more formed, and an ample supply of good thing 3 was again forthcoming and had full justice done them. After tea all returned home, tired but thoroughly satisfied with the day's outing. _ The annual picnic and sports iu connection with the Te Mata district school will take place in the school grounds cm Friday, 12th inst. A programme of races. for both old and young, has been drawn up, aud I understand a large sum of money has been collected for prizes. The Waitetuna, school re-opeued on Monday after the Christmos holidays, and the children find it hard work after the long play, and the attendance was not up to tho average number during the first week. At the standard examination, held some time ago, all the children except two passed, which must be very gratifying to the teacher, Miss Aiusworth, and the parents of the children.— (Own Correspondent).
