KIRIKIRIROA ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Kirikiriroa Roud Board was held at the Council Chambers, Haniltou Bast, yes terday. There were present : Messrs Jno. Gordon (chairman), Juo. Primrose and M. G. Farrar. Railway Crossing.—Mr F. W. Lang, M.H.R., wrote, enclosing a letter he had received from the Minister for Railways re the crossing on the Tramway Road, stiitiug that the crossing could not be made unless the Board raid the sum of £4O. That was the ordinary sum charged for such work, and no exception could be made in the case of the Kirikiriroa Road Board.—The Clerk reported that he had again written to Mr Lang on the question, pointing out the unjust and untenable position assumed by the Minister for Railways. Foreman's Report. -The Foreman, Mr J. Franklin, reported upon the works carried out Bince last meeting. He stated that the culvert at Crosby's | Gully was decaying very fast, and he I suggested that it should be replaced by a seven foot bridge. The members considered tliat to carry out the suggestion would entail a considerable expenditure, and decided to leave the work over until it had been inspected by some of the Board's members. Casey's Road —Ou the subject of Casey's Road the foreman wrote stating that as the road was about 30 chains in length, forming and clearing would cost £lO, while a drain alongside would cost £6 more. This estimate did not include the cost of gravel.—Mr Farrer thought as Messrs Casey and Storey, who were interested in the matter, were willing to contribute towards the cost the work should be carried out.—The Board resolved to have the road formed, but not to undertake the draining work just at present.

Gate on Road.—Mr Roderick Johnson wrote asking for permission to erect a gate on the road between Sections 93, 94 and 140, Kirikiriroa.—This matter was deferred until Mr M. McNieol's sanction had been obtained.

Grey's Road.—Mr E. B. Cox wrote asking what arrangements the Board deeired to make regarding the draining work at Grey's Road, Taupiri.—ln reply the Board decided to contribute 10s a chain towards the work, which was left entirely to the discretion of Mr Cox. Tenders.—The following tenders were received for gravelling on the Ngarna-vvahia-Taupiri Road : C. Wallace, lOjd per yard; F. W. Littlewood, llfd ; Wallace's tender was accepted.

Finance.—The Clerk read the following financial statement :—Receipts for the year, £538 19a. Expenditure, £386 Is lOd ; balance, £152 17s 2d ; thirds due, £l2 13s Bd. Assets, £165 10s lOd ; less accounts to pay, £2O Is ; balance, £145 9s lOd.

Gravel PiT.~Mr Farrer r aid he had interviewed Mr Prootor with a view to obtaining a gravel pit, but the owner was averse to selling the land. It was possible, however, that a supply could be obtained for a royalty.—Messrs Farrer and Primrose were deputed to interview Mr Proctor/and arrango for the right to take the gravel from the allotment for the sum of £25.

Railway Bridge —A petition was received from 34 ratepayers in the Kirikiriroa Riding asking the Board to approach the Government with a view to having the Hamilton Railway Bridge made available for foot traffic- The Board decided to forward the request to the Minister for Railways through the member 1 for the district, Mr F. W. Lang, and to ask the member for the district to do his utmost in the matter.

Old Gravel Pit.—lt was decided to invite tenders for the purchase of the Board's old gravel pit—three acres—near Claudelands. Accounts.—The following accounts were passed for payment: —D. Henry, 13s 6d ; Jas. Winter, 10s; R. Vowless, £110s; J. Dixon, £2 lis: John Hill, 12s ; T. W. Maun'-ler, 14s; J. Frauklin, £9;R. O.Clarke, £4 10s 6d.
