Mining.—At Ralph's mine work is going steadily ahead, a large number of men being busily employed on the ventilating shaft, while others are making a road-way for the. new siding. At the Extended several gangs are opening and extending the dips, but the majority of the colliers have been transferred thence either to Ralph's or to Kimihia. Mr Wight, the manager, anxious to provide work for all, has succeeded in finding openings for most. Several dwellings are also being shifted from the vicinity of Ralph's mine to the 'triangular piece of luml opposite Mr Friar's residence. Sale cf Sections.—A number of building sites, belonging to the Coal Mines Company, will be auctioned on Wednesday, 10th inst., at 11.30 a.m. As houses are scarce, building sites difficult to obtain, and the terms of purchase fair and reasonable, brisk bidding may be anticipated. On (lit that the vestry of St. Paul's (Anglican) Church and Lodge Taupiri intend purchasing two each, the former to build a minister's house upon, and the latter to erect a lodge room. Roads.—The recent awtul weather has not improved the roads. That ou the left bank of the river leading from the punt to Mr Donald MoKiuuon's estate is in a dangerous state. The Rev. Mr Ward's experiences are not of the most pleasant order. Masonic—Arrangements for the consecration and installation ceremonies, as well as for the ball, aro being pushed on with great vigour, and everything points to a successful gathering. In our advertising columns it'wdl be seen that tickets for the ball may be had from all members of the craft.

Sunday School Soiree.—The annua' soiree in connectiou with the Uuited Sunday-schools was held in the Volunteer Hall, on Wednesday evening, Mr E. B. Shneran presiding over a large and enthusiastic audience of pupils and parents. The combined choirs, under the able leadership of Mr James Shaw, rendered a number of concerted pieces in a pleasing manner, while the orchestra under Bandmaster Skellern acquired more laurels. The songs and recitations of the pupils were much enjoyed, while the solos by Messrs C. Gleeson and Valentine, and the recitation by Mrs Cook fairly brought down the house. Addresses were delivered by the Rev. Mr Ward and the Chairman, A sumtuiuua tea was provided by a committee cuubißtin« of the Superintendent, Mr Jaa. Shaw aud Messrs Geary Sheerau, Mesdames Cook, Ward aud Gleeson (juu.), Miss Johustou played the accompaniments in her usual efficient manner.
