POLITICAL NOTES.
(BY TKMSGRAI'ir. OWN OOBRKSI'ONDENT) Wellington, La3t Night. THE AGENT GENERALSHIP.
It is an opuu secret now, even amongst Government supporters, that what I hinted' at the last week is exceedingly probable, namely that in the event of the Government being defeated at the general election. Mr Seddon will appoint himself to the Agent-Generalship in London in success'on to the Hon. W. P. Reeves. It may be remembered that the Premier, in reply to Caps. Russell, told the House on Tuesday last that the Government had no wish to terminate the appointment, as they were p rfectly satisfied with the way in which MiReeves had carried out his duties. In reply to another member as to the length of the appointment, Mr Seddon said until Mr Reeves wished to go away. (Capt. Russell : " When is that ?") The Premier replied that he thought it was up to the end of the year. THE ESTIMATES. A stormy sitting is expected tomorrow night over the Estimates. Many members are intensely dissatisfied witn the vote 6 for their districts on the Public Works Estimates, and they characterise the Public Works Statement itself as a most glaring bid for support at the gHuoral elections.
