Issuing Valueless Cheques. Thos. Jul.an, who was arrested in Jtotorua a few days ago/ was charged with having on the 11th September last unlawfully and knowingly issued a valueless cheque drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, New Plymouth, and thereby obtained from Josh Smith, of Hamilton, the sum of £l, with intent to defraud him of the same. —Accused pleaded guilty, but said he had been on the sick list and took fit* and hardly knew what ho was doing at times. He was sentenced to three months in Mount lldtm Goa 1 . with hard labour. He was further charged with having on the 9th inst., at Te Awamutu, obtained the 6um of £9 from Joseph Bathurst by means of a valueless cheque, and on the 11th inst with having obtained the sum ot £3 from Samuel Lewis in a similar manner. On the two latter charges ho was remanded until September 23rd at Te Awamutu.
