Norton drew, a revolver, whereupon Meagher made off, and an interesting race eventuated. Norton, dodging the crowd and watching his opportunity, fired at Meagher, but missed him. A number of people hindered Norton's movements, and Meagher escaped. Norton was arrested, and remanded. He was bailed out, and immediately issued a warrant for the arrest of Meagher, who surrendered himself, and was also bailed out.
