PIRONGIA.
Maori Crows.—Last week Mr Henry Short's threshing and chaffcutting machines have been busy at Whatiwhetilioe, and with fair returns the Maoris there have been rewarded. With them .threshing lime is a merry one, as all around gather to look ou or assist, to that the quantity of kai consumed, if it had to be purchased, would leave very little profit for the agriculturalist. Working Bee.—On Saturday afternoon a working bee of the members of the Waipa Amateur Athletic Club took place in the grounds of the Club. There was a good muster : some brought the posts from Ohaupo to fence the racinp track. AH worked most heartily, so thut by sundown all the posts and gates were erected, leaving only the wires and a little levelling to be done to complete the course for this year's meetine. The ladies of Pirongia were not backward in showing their interest in the Club's doings by providing afternoon tea on the ground for the workers, which was very acceptable, the fair donors being rewarded by hearty cheers from the partakers. Road Pasty. The road party at work on the Pirongia-Te-Rfen-a-Moa Road, under Mr George Kay's superintendence, are doing good work now that the fine weather has set in. Just now the road to Knwhia is in good condition. Mr Yates drove a party from there to this township last week iu six hours. SETTLfK Givks Ur.—One, who was thought the most energetic of the Tetahi- Pirongia new settlers, has given up his selection there. Mr King hacLsome sixty acres of bush felled, had built a house, formed a garden and built outbuildings, at a considerable outlay of money and labour. But as he and his family were all brought up in Nortb- • ampiou in th-J boot manufacture, farming was not: congenial, hence their departure. Mr Yates has taken over the land with all liabilities, and will doubtless, with his well • known energy, succeed in establishing a good home for his family. Mr Miller's house on the • same block is under construction, Mr George Berry being the contractor.— (Own Correspondent).
